Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are common conditions seen in diabetic patients and major cause of morbidity, mortality and hospitalization. But these problems have been remained as very much neglected epidemic in our country and under-noticed by the health care professionals. Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders varies from population to population in relation to their professional hazards. The aim of this study was determining the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and its associated factors among the type 2 diabetic subjects. In a cross-sectional study design a total of 1800 type 2 diabetic patients were screened from BIRDEM and BIHS Hospital. Data was collected purposively by a semistructured questionnaire and a check-list through face-to-face interview. Appropriate univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses were done accordingly by SPSS software version 16. The mean(±SD) age of the subjects was 52.6(±11.7) years (95% CI-52.1, 53.2) and 55%(n=990) were male. The mean(±SD) duration of diabetes was 10.5(±7.1) years (95% CI-10.15, 10.8). The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of the study subjects (for both sex) was 77.8% (n=1400) (95% CI-75.88, 79.72). Significant mean differences (p<0.001) have been found for monthly family income, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar and random blood sugar. Due to musculoskeletal disorders 62.8% (n=1130) (95% CI-4.37, 9.77) respondents changed their lifestyle for activity of daily living. Almost eight in every ten diabetic subjects are suffering from musculoskeletal disorders like pain, abnormal sensation and muscle cramp in their body. Monthly family income, raised blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, increased depression and high body weight are the major associated factors for MSDs.Full Text

Selecting healthy control for any research has become a serious problem in developing countries. General populations are usually unaware of their health condition and progress towards abnormal complication(s) unknowingly.The present study was aimed to estimate health status in the general population of Khulna division in Bangladesh.
The present study was aimed to estimate health status in the general population of Khulna division in Bangladesh.
Purposely adult subjects were selected who were above 30 years and free from any known ailment. Both anthropometric and biochemical parameters were measured and calculated by standard procedures.
Health screening of the population indicated that a substantial number of subjects were suffering from undiagnosed hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia (triglyceride, cholesterol and low density lipoprotein), and abnormal level of high density lipoprotein, creatinine and serum glutamatepyruvate transaminase.
A considerable number of subjects were found to be underweight, overweight or obese. The ratio of abnormality was higher in female compared to its male counterpart.

Disorders of the musculoskeletal system are the single largest group of work-related illness in the developing and developed world. Sedentary working style with wrong posture for long time can be important risk factor for the development of this disorder. Substantial number of Garment workers in Bangladesh suffered from musculoskeletal disorder.The aims of the study were to determine the prevalence and find out the factors associated with musculoskeletal disorders among the garments workers. A total of 150 garments workers (where 60.7% were female) from Dhaka city (mean age- 25.2±4.8 years) were screened out in a cross-sectional study. Oxford muscle grading scale and Four point pain index have been used for the measurement of pain and muscular weakness.
Among the respondents suffering from pain, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorder was found in 60.7% whereas 10.0% had muscular weakness in different part of the body.
Gender (p<0.005), age (p<0.036) and marital status were significantly associated, however body weight (p<0.07) and education (p<0.062) were closely associated with this disorder. Almost two third of the garment workers were suffering from musculoskeletal disorders where gender, age, body weight, marital status and education can be associated factors.
